Liam Fitzgerald, of Northborough, Massachusetts was born in 2006 with Down Syndrome (or as Peach calls it “Awesome Syndrome”). Then, in 2009 he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). He just completed 3.5 years of chemotherapy treatment in May 2013 and is doing wonderful. Liam’s photo (to the left) went viral on Facebook and was even featured on Huffington Post!
From Liam’s mother, Christine…
“Peach’s Neet Feet is a wonderful organization. As a parent watching a child with a disability and also faced with a life-threatening disease, all you want to do is help ease their pain and see them smile. The “Neet Feet” are designed based on the personality of the child and what the child likes. The artists take the time to understand who your child is and what would make the design of the sneakers so special to them. Then they deliver them to your child in a special way (when able). It’s always a wonderful, loving person who pays so much attention to making your child feel special. They call the delivery people – “Shoe Fairies” and that is just what they are!
For me it is not just about the special sneakers that were made for my child, it is about the friendship I have made with Madison (from afar) that will always be a part of my life. It inspires me to try hard every day to give back, in a way that they (Peach’s Neet Feet) do to so many kids in the world. I have already donated to give 3 pair of Neet Feet and will sign up to be a Shoe Fairy! I want to help this cause continue on for a very long time so that others can experience the pure joy that Liam and our family was able to experience.”
Liam’s delivery was a special one. You see, Liam is a huge sports fan (primarily Boston sports). So of course… his show needed to reflect that awesome passion! Liam was fortunate enough to has his delivery made on the field at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro (where the Patriots play!). We had a tour of the stadium (which he loved), then he ran onto the field and was given his PNFs. Liam’s reaction was priceless. He looked and them, laced them up, and ran onto the field to signal “TOUCHDOWN”! He told mom, Christine, that, “These are the best cool dude sneakers he’s ever seen.” He loves them!
Peach’s Neet Feet is an amazing non-profit. They are so giving and it all comes from their heart! Or should I say their heART (because it is the shoes and the amazing artwork that really brings a smile to the faces of the children).
