Saoirse’s Magic Shoes….
Saoirse was born happy and healthy on June 1, 2010. When I went into labor, we found out that she was Frank Breech, with her feet up by her head, meaning that she would be born by c-section. This is how she got her name – Saoirse is Gaelic for Freedom – and she wanted to come into the world the fast, pretty way.
About three months later, there were concerns for my health, and after nearly 3 months of active investigation, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the end of January 2011. I started chemotherapy in February.
Just months later, Saoirse began having strange symptoms. We spent 3 weeks in and out of doctors’ offices, hospitals, emergency rooms, and specialist’s offices. On May 5, 2011 Saoirse was sent to the ER by her pediatrician for a low red blood count and possible internal bleeding. That day, after a head CT and an abdominal ultrasound, we were told her diagnosis – Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. Chemotherapy was started the next day.
Continue readingFinally we was going to get our little girl! After having two boys we were thrilled for the arrival of our first girl. Ayden Elizabeth Wagler was born a July 9, 2007; weighing 9 pounds and 5 ounces! She was absolutely perfect and we all fell immediately in love with her. She was moving right along with her milestones and seemed to be doing great, until she was about 8 months old. She had been walking along the couches and end tables and we thought for sure she was going to be an early walker!! My husband had commented a couple of times that he thought her leg seemed bowed but we just assumed it would straighten out. It never did and she quit putting weight on it.
Continue readingZachary was 5 years old when we found out he had a tumor in his brain stem. Now at 12 years old he has another one.
At 3 1 L/2 yrs old Zachary started getting car sick. The doctors told us it was very common at this age. It seemed like every time we walked out the door he got sick. Over time, he started getting dark circles under his eyes and we were told it was very common in children with allergies. Well, he was frequently congested and we do live in East TN. After a while it seemed he was always ill with some sort of virus that could be explained away.

Yan was born in Puerto Rico on February 8, 2008. We moved to Tampa, Florida on July 4, 2008, looking for a better tomorrow for my kids. We lived in Florida, and Yan a healthy baby was fine until October 3, 2008. He went to the hospital with high fevers and vomiting on October 4, 2008, where they did a Ct Scan and discover a Brain Tumor (CHOROID PLEXUS CARCINOMA) 5cm in his left side pressing so much that they had to relieve the pressure. A few days later, he had an MRI, followed by surgery where we discovered he had three tumors instead of one. Doctors removed the one in the left side, and until now, he still has two tumors. Going through three and a half years of chemo, the doctors decided to send him home to do hospice and wait for his passing on March 25, 2011.
Continue readingPregnant with our second child on July 2011 we went in for our 20 weekultra sound to find out that we were having another daughter Lucy. What we also found out was she was diagnosed with a CDH Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. What is CDH you ask as we did... The diaphragm is formed in the first trimester of pregnancy and controls the lungs' ability to inhale and exhale. CDH occurs when the diaphragm fails to form or to close totally and an opening allows abdominal organs into the chest cavity. And prevents the lungs from forming completely. So going home of course I thought I better google it before knowing for sure how sever her case was and knowing 100% that yes she did have this defect. Come to find out this is a pretty common birth defect with a 50% survival rate. So we knew we were in for quite the ride praying our Lucy girl would be okay and be coming home with us. So we started our 2 week appointments and found out that she had her stomach intestine and spleen in her chest cavity pushing her heart to the right side of her body and under developed lungs .
