What inspires you to put in long hours, money and talent to donate shoes?
First and foremost my faith that we are all given a gift from God, and we should use it to the best of our ability. My mom is another powerful inspiration in my life! Growing up, my mom taught all 7 of us kids about charitable works. She had us at soup kitchens, cooking food for Ronald McDonald Houses, clothing drives for the poor, and preparing dinners for families with children in the NICU. As we got older we gave up our material holidays, such as Christmas and started Operation Santa, where we gave the gifts we would have gotten to other children. To this day, Operation Santa is still going strong and our family still gives up our own Christmas presents. I have also been inspired watching my mom battle her own illnesses, and never lose her amazing spirit! She has always told all of us kids to pay it forward….PNF is my pay it forward.
How can a person, classroom, or company get involved?
I have been asked this before but it is worth answering again. I can come and speak to a classroom of any age about following your dream and doing community service. I can also let a class know how they can help, if it is a dollar donation from every student to sponsor one PNF fighter, that is awesome. This is something a few schools here in my community are doing over the holidays . I can also do presentations for a company/organization on how they can get involved, if not just in the funding piece, in the public relations area of letting people know this organization is available to fund or to refer too, along with spreading the word about childhood cancer, and other long term childhood diseases. Personally, people can always buy a pair of shoes for themselves or an ill child, donate money from 5.00 to whatever their hearts content. If they can’t make a donation then spread the word about PNF! Each child has a pair of shoes that not only brings them smiles, but also is a walking bill board of their battle. It helps bring awareness of their disease, and awareness can mean knowledge, and knowledge can mean research, and that can mean a cure! So there are many ways to get involved and I would love to hear from you!!!
