At any given moment Evan Jones can be found at the top of a tree or on a sports field.
In July 2012, he began to complain about pain in his right arm. He’s very tall for his age and growing fast, so the pain was dismissed as growing pains. Off and on for a few weeks he would wake in the night or early in the morning in pain. Since Evan never complains we began to get more concerned but still thought it was from growing since he still could do all normal activities.
At his first football practice in August, his dad noticed he wasn’t throwing with his right arm so he took him to the local Urgent Care. An X-ray showed a “process” in his bone. This started our journey with osteosarcoma.
Evan endured test after test, pokes, prods, chemo, surgeries, being schooled at home (which is tough for a 10 year old), missing his friends, inactivity, and generally missing out on his childhood……all without complaint.
He received his Peach’s Neet Feet right before his resection in November. This was a big deal as it was a surprise. We chose the super hero mercenary Deadpool (Evan’s favorite) because of his superhuman healing abilities which allow him to “regenerate” and even to defeat cancerous tumors leaving him disfigured.
Evan’s own fight with cancer included surgery to remove the top portion of his right humerus and surrounding muscle and bone replacing it with his clavicle. This has left him with limited movement in his right arm.
Still no complaints - Evan continues to move forward and is cancer free.
