During the 2010 Christmas vacation, Lynanne and I decided to hold back a small batch of the 2007 Vintage Cabernet Sauvignon blend for a "special project". We did not have anything specific in mind, but we know that eventually we would find something that would touch our hearts. Almost 5 years later, in June of 2012, we received an eMail from our friend Rick Garcia, with a link to PNF's video on karmatube.org and we both knew in our hearts, that this very special cause was the reason we had set aside that wine… It was Karma! We are proud to announce the release of the 2007 Trifecta "PNF Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon * The 2007 Growing Season: The season began dry and very cold with about 60% of normal precipitation throughout the appellation. The dry soils halted canopy production early which gave us the opportunity to do even more refinement in fruit thinning. Throughout the summer few days topped 100 degrees, even in the warmest locations in the appellation. There were notably fewer days in the 90s, which changed early predictions that 2007 would be an unusually early harvest. There was a brief period of heat that spiked around Labor Day, but the temperatures cooled after several days boosting the sugar development that we were looking for to complement the excellent acid structure; nearly ideal chemistry and flavor development for a wine of extraordinary complexity. The moderate weather, combined with very low disease and pest pressure left the vines and the fruit in very good condition for an exceptional harvest. Vintner’s Tasting Notes: Clean, deep garnet in color. On the nose, an intense bouquet of red and black fruits, roasted coffee and chocolate are immediately notable. On the palate, a gorgeous, lush, concentration of cherries, black raspberries, blueberries, plums, candied violets and mineral flavors appear. The velvety smooth, fine grained tannins support the expansive saturating fruit, with floral and spice notes coming on strong again on the finish. It is strikingly fresh, long, and without hard edges. The combination of depth, extraordinary complexity and vivacity are impressive! This very special and limited wine, is a melange of some of Napa's finest Cabernet Sauvignon, exemplifying the stunning, yet unpredictable 2007 vintage.
